Scruffy Outlier Inaugural Beer Release

Beginning in 2023, we are asking breweries to create a beer of their own in honor of Scott Hand and donate a portion of proceeds to the HOP Foundation. We will be working toward a $25,000 goal in order to create a scholarship program in Scott’s name. The scholarship will be for the Fermentation Science program at Madisonville Community College.

The beer release series will run from January 1, 2023 - March 20th, 2023, which is Scott’s birthday. Breweries are encouraged to use one of Scott’s recipes which is available HERE but are not required to do so. The beers will all be named “Scruffy Outlier” and a portion of proceeds will need to be donated to HOP Foundation in Scott’s name. How long the beer runs and how those donations work is entirely up to participating breweries. Breweries can run the beer for a week, a month, or the whole time. Some common themes for donation have been anything from $1 per pint of Scruffy Outlier sold to 10% of all sales from Scruffy to 100% of profits from the beer. Brewery participation is appreciated, no matter how the donation comes to fruition.

Limited assistance from Malteurop (25% off) is available on a first come, first serve and availability basis. We are working to get more supplier sponsors as well.
